# Redemption Codes

Redemption codes are handed out at events, hackathons and workshops. Entering one adds credits to your organization's balance directly — no card, no checkout, nothing to pay.

This is different from a [coupon](/billing/coupons), which discounts a purchase you are already making at checkout. A redemption code grants credits on its own.

## Redeeming a code

1. **Go to the billing page** at [console.aiand.com/settings/billing](https://console.aiand.com/settings/billing).

2. **Find the "Redeem a Code" panel** and type your code. Case and spacing don't matter.

3. **Click "Apply Code."** The credits appear in your balance immediately, and the redemption shows up in Billing History as **Code Redemption**.

## Rules

Each code carries its own limits, set when the code was created:

- **One redemption per person.** Aliases of the same address count as one person — `you+anything@gmail.com` and `y.o.u@gmail.com` are the same account for this purpose.
- **One redemption per organization.**
- **A total claim limit.** Popular codes run out.
- **An expiry.** Event codes are often valid only on the day of the event.
- **Sometimes a list of email domains.** A code for a company or university event may only work for addresses at those domains. The match is exact, so an organizer covering both staff and students lists both domains — `u-tokyo.ac.jp` on its own does not admit `s.u-tokyo.ac.jp`.
- **Only organization admins can redeem.** Credits land on the shared organization balance, so it takes the same permission as choosing the billing currency.

A code can grant a different amount in each billing currency — say ¥3,000 or $20 for the same event. Your organization receives the amount for **its own** billing currency, which is chosen once at signup and fixed afterwards.

If a code has no amount set for your currency, it is refused rather than converted at a rate nobody chose. The two figures are set independently, so they are not conversions of one another.

## Troubleshooting

Credits from a code never expire, and behave exactly like purchased credits when you make requests. They are not refundable for cash.
